Making art and movement are intertwined for me. Whether I’m holding a pencil, a burin or a brush, doing yoga, dancing, walking in the city or the woods, this is a way of “drawing”. My early life was informed by wildly-patterned textiles and bold hues, the sounds of classical musicians in my home, living around my mother’s paintings, and the stimulation of living in big, buzzing cities. These sources of inspiration were enhanced by my study of dance: ballet, modern, dances of Africa and its diaspora, yoga, extensive art historical research, and the unruly nature of family life. These rhythms and aesthetics inform how I engage with the natural world and urban environments.
