Ken MacDonald
Presented by Spring Bull Gallery/Studio
Ken MacDonald studied industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design in the late 1950s. After a tour of duty in the army, he spent 35 years in product design and management. He began creating welded sculpture in 1998, converting a large workshop on his property into a sculpture barn. His work has been broadly exhibited and received numerous juried show awards. He is an artist member and past president of the Wickford Art Association, with membership in the Newport Art Museum, South County Art Association and International Sculpture Center. Ken’s largest work is a commissioned 10 ft tall stainless steel outdoor piece installed in East Greenwich, RI. Other stainless steel works include a series of steel & stone pieces, and an outdoor fountain, which can be seen in Wickford, RI, at St. Paul’s Episcopal church Meditation Garden. “Found Object” works are always happening in the sculpture barn, where recycled parts morph into unique one of a kind pieces. He likes to use a wide variety of materials, exploring spatial relationships, texture, and treatments that enhance the unique properties of each material. Recycled materials are used as much as possible, including salvaged stainless steel, iron, copper, glass, etc.. Whimsey and movement often play a part in these pieces, many of which decorate properties from coast to coast. Ken lives & works in North Kingstown.
