Jan Prentice

Jan Prentice specializes in avian art and travels widely to find them and paint them. She hasbeen awarded two artist residencies: one with the National Park Service at Big Cypress Preserve (the Everglades, Florida) and one with the Huyck Preserve (Rensselaerville, NY). She has exhibited her work in the prestigious Bird in Art Exhibition, Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Wausau, Wisconsin; the State Museum of New York, where her work is in the permanent collection; the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, the University of Colorado Natural History Museum; the New Britain Museum of American Art, and Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, CT, among others. She is an elected member of the NewHaven Paint and Clay Club, the Madison Art Society, and an associate member of the Lyme Art Association. In 2010, she co-founded the Natural Science Illustration Program at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, New Haven, CT, where she is currently a senior instructor. She resides in Branford, CT with her husband, Whitney Prentice, a fellow artist who often accompanies her on her search for birds.
