Beatrice Coron
Presented by Arts Center Killingworth’s Spectrum Art Gallery and Artisan Store
For the past 30 years Béatrice Coron has explored visual storytelling through artist’s books, papercutting, and public art. Born and raised in France, she briefly attended the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon and Jean Moulin University Lyon 3 to study Chinese, but is largely self-taught. She has worked as a shepherdess, factory worker, truck driver, and tour guide, among other jobs. Coron lived in Egypt and Mexico for one year each and spent two years in China before moving to New York, where she launched her career as an artist; these places deeply influenced her thinking and work. Her work is held in major collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Getty, and the Walker Art Center. Her public artworks can be seen in New York, Chicago, Paris, and Hong Kong. She delivered a TED Talk about her unusual path and is a member of the American Guild of Papercutters and the New York Center for Book Arts. Coron’s work is currently exhibited at Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, Connecticut.
