Washed Up, New Paintings by Rashell George
lora schlesinger gallery
Dec. 10, 2025 - Jan. 14, 2017
Lora Schlesinger Gallery is pleased to present Washed Up, Rashell George’s 3rd solo exhibition with the gallery. Water is a recurring theme in Rashell’s work. When she was an infant Rashell lived on a boat, and in her youth she lived in Hawaii. Surrounded by the sea, the ocean and nautical imagery have permeated her work. Though seascapes with pristine waters and idyllic paradises have been painted a countless number of times throughout history, Rashell breaks away from the cliché. Among the works is a tropical scene in the height of a storm, a shark attack, and a series of contemporary surf spot landscapes that capture the daily life of surf culture. Reduced to the painterly elements of color fields, washes of paint, and paint drips, Rashell creates seascapes that depict the day to day moments of the sea that are usually passed over or discarded.
Rashell George received her BFA from Otis College of Art and Design in Painting and Drawing. She was the recipient of the Friends of Joe Mugnaini Award in 2004.
The shows open with the artists’ reception on Saturday, December 10 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The gallery is located in the Bergamot Station Art Center, 2525 Michigan Avenue B5b, Santa Monica.
