Opening Reception in the Russian style: June 22, 7:30p.m.

Russian Cultural Center Our Texas presents selected paintings from a private collection of Russian artists of the late 20th century.

During the Soviet period there had been a certain number of officially recognized artists who could openly show their artworks; their names are widely known to the public. They worked in the style of Socialist Realism, the only style allowed by the authorities at that time.

Alongside with those persons other artists worked. Their art had nothing to do with the official style, and for this reason they had difficulties presenting their works. During Perestroika and Post-Perestroika the situation changed. After decades of suppression, many artists of a non-socialist movement had an opportunity to show and sell their artworks, staging a sort of post-Soviet Renaissance. This is how the collection of paintings we present came to be.

Among the artists are: R. Askerov, Sapar, I.Goidenko, Petrosian, Shishov and I.Rus.
