Michele Mikesell’s Of Watchers, Tricksters & the Bold is a new solo exhibition that explores the liminal spaces between what is known and what lurks just beyond the perceptible. Across this body of work — largely painting with mixed media elements — Mikesell draws from myth, folklore, and personal mythology to conjure figures that are at once familiar and unfamiliar: watchers whose gaze holds both compassion and vigilance; tricksters who jolt perception and undermine certainty; and bold presences that embody transformation, defiance, or reclamation.

Through layered surfaces, expressive brushwork, and subtle painting collage technique, Mikesell’s aesthetic weaves together texture, shadow, and unexpected color. The works function as thresholds — invitations into inner landscapes where tensions between concealment and revelation play out. Some pieces offer quiet meditation; others pulse with energy and challenge the viewer’s assumptions.

In this show, Mikesell intensifies her exploration of identity and power: who watches us, who plays the trickster, and who dares to stand boldly. The exhibition resists easy narratives; instead it embraces ambiguity, the unsettled, the in-between. It is a space for reflection, confrontation, and wonder — art as both mirror and oracle.
