We would like to announce our upcoming Late Autumn Exhibition at the
Alexey von Schlippe Gallery of Art, located in the Branford House Mansion, on UConn’s Avery Point Campus in Groton, CT.
The exhibition runs from Saturday, Oct. 31st through Saturday, Dec. 12th.
There will be an Opening Reception, Fri., Nov. 6th 6-8 PM.
The Nov. 6th Reception is open to the public and will feature live music with the
Bill Morrison & Kent Hewitt Jazz Duo
The AvS Gallery is proud to present an exhibition featuring the outstanding work of these four national Artists:
Guido Garaycochea of Groton, CT, exhibits stunning new mixed media paintings. Garaycochea states: “With references to organic elements and different textures, I combine figurative abstraction with organic remembrances, layering, overlapping elements. By doing this I create a new emptiness in meaning, driving the viewer out of their comfort zone, creating a tension which adds energy to the dynamic of the work.”
Sunil Howlader of Mystic, CT, Describes his color infused paintings in this way. “My style combines the beauty of naturalistic representation with the expressive elements of abstraction. Often times a single painting may transition between the realms of representation and abstraction. I like this style, Semi-abstract Expressionism, because it gives me the freedom to add emotions, feelings and ideas to what I see.
Karen Roarke of Middletown, RI, exhibits her powerful non-representational paintings.
Roarke states: “I derive inspiration from what I see. This attraction to visual elements (color, light, transparency, pattern) moves me to investigate the pictorial properties I encounter in my surroundings, media images and the landscape through the plastic properties of paint.
Laura Shechter of Brooklyn, NY paints luminous, cityscapes of New York in the style of contemporary realism. Shechter states; “I paint a moment of light with all if its visual contradictions.”
