Casa de Cultura do Parque present its II Exhibition Cycle, from August 2 to November 2, 2025. The free program includes three exhibitions: “Palavra e gesto” [Word and gesture], a group show in the Galeria do Parque; “Carolina Colichio: Substrato” [Substrate], in the Cabinet; and “Antonio Pulquério: É de SANTO, é de BARRO” [It’s of a Saint, it’s of Clay] in Project 280X1020. The opening also featured performances by Antonio Pulquério and the Colombian indigenous artist Julieth Morales.

Before becoming a structured verbal language, writing was, in fact, an image. The exhibition “Palavra e gesto” [Word and gesture], with a critical text by Camila Bechelany, explores this very relationship, focusing on the artist’s gesture. The show brings together works from different generations—Fabio Miguez, Maíra Dietrich, Marcelo Cipis, Marilá Dardot, Monica Barki, and Rafael Alonso—offering a broad perspective on how the written word becomes a significant element in contemporary art, creating and shifting meanings.
In the paintings of Miguez and Alonso, the word has a visual presence that adds rhythm and weight. While Miguez appropriates urban fragments to create a constructive and disruptive composition, Alonso uses text with weight and humor to contrast or complement the image. For Marcelo Cipis, the word is an essential part of the game between what is seen and what is read. In his drawings, captions and figures merge, showing that writing is, literally, drawing. The exhibition also features Marilá Dardot, who uses prefixes to explore the creation of language, and Maíra Dietrich, who treats text as a physical phenomenon. Lastly, Monica Barki blurs the line between word and image by displacing urban graffiti and ads into art objects, turning ambiguity into a poetic field.
Project 280X1020 hosts “É de SANTO, é de BARRO” [It’s of a Saint, it’s of Clay], an intervention by Antonio Pulquério (b. Campos Sales, CE, 1967). The work fits into a contemporary art tradition that subverts the minimalist modular logic born from 1960s pop art. Pulquério handcrafts a series of fired clay modules which, from a distance, form a grid, but up close resemble Espadas de São Jorge (Saint George’s Sword) or Santa Bárbara (Saint Barbara’s Sword), a plant of African origin.
The work, with an introductory text by Tadeu Chiarelli, intertwines the earthly and the divine, reflecting Brazilian cultural syncretism. With its multifaceted structure, “É de SANTO, é de BARRO” references offerings to Catholic saints who, in Brazil, are intertwined with African-matrix deities like Ogum and Iansã. This exemplary confluence becomes a portrait of the layers that structure contemporary art in the country, celebrating cultural resistance and survival.
In the Gabinete, the exhibition “Substrato” [Substrate] showcases the research of Carolina Colichio (b. Ribeirão Preto, SP, 1977). The artist uses fragments and images of landscapes in ceramic and painting, seeking to give visibility to existing forms and to propose a mediation of matter. Her pieces, which evoke fossils and minerals, invite a perception of the unlimited potential of things, fostering a common and interconnected nature.
The opening program also includes the performance “ANINPI (Agua y sangre),” by the indigenous artist Julieth Morales (b. Colombia, 1992). The ritual, conducted with her mother, explores feminine cultural identity and ancestry. They re-enact the Mojigangas ritual, using fuchsia and blue fabrics from the Misak flag, which symbolize their people’s struggle, fertility, water, and origin. The performance harmonizes memory and the present, connecting the spiritual, physical, and territorial worlds to the sound of traditional Misak music.
The exhibitions have artistic direction by Claudio Cretti and are an initiative of the Instituto de Cultura Contemporânea (ICCo).
