The Espejo Organization for the Arts and Rabbithole Projects are honored to present Home/House, a performance by Italian artist Giacomo Colosi. Basing his work in the concepts of absence, personal memories, and vulnerability, the New Jersey-based artist creates a performance that explores the relationship between language and form and how cultural context affects the way in which we create meaning.
Embodying the physical, conceptual, and emotional aspects attributed to the Home/House relationship, Colosi explores the conceptions that connect an architectural and empty structure into a psychological space of comfort and security. Using a raw, humorous, and absurd style, Colosi invites the audience to participate in this experience creating a synergy with his environment and encouraging participants to revisit their own memories and, maybe, discover something new in their process.
Born in Messina, Italy, Giacomo Colosi is an independent performance and video artist whose work explores the human condition and its performative practices. Colosi has performed at art festivals all around Italy including Arte Contemporanea en Movimiento (2005), Festival Internazionale del Teatro in Piazza (2010), C.E.R.P. Le Arti In Citta Perugia Contemporanea (2007). Colosi has also performed in collaboration with Frieze Projects at Frieze Art Fair (2009), Biennale di Venezia, Nordic Pavilion (2009) and Non-Dancers performance at the Whitney Biennial (2012).
This exhibition is curated and organized by The Espejo Organization for the Arts. EOarts is an arts management organization based in Bushwick, Brooklyn, that supports and promotes the work of mid-career and emerging international artists and creatives. Since 2013, EOarts has developed workshops, exhibitions, publications, art residencies, and many other programs with the mission to create an international and multicultural community that will open new possibilities and perspectives for culture worldwide.
The exhibition is presented by Rabbithole Projects. Rabbithole Projects is a contemporary art space located on the waterfront of the Dumbo arts district in Brooklyn. Since 2006, the gallery has exhibited works by emerging and mid-career artists, presenting over 60 group and solo shows as a participant gallery in Dumbo’s First Thursday series of art walks. The space operates as a project room, providing artists a forum for showing new works and works-in-progress. Rabbithole Projects also hosts a series of special events, from movie screenings, readings, yoga classes, and the Brooklyn Creative program of artist workshops.
The performance will take place Friday April 8th at 7.30pm at Rabbithole Projects (33 Washington Street, Brooklyn).
