EVERY BOAT TELLS A STORY: A RETROSPETIVE ART EXHIBIT OF BOATS PAINTED BY MARY SAYAS

When you live in a place surrounded by water, as we do in the South Carolina Lowcountry, you can’t help but notice boats every day; whether they are in the water, tied up to a dock, on a trailer heading to or from a landing, or abandoned and stuck in the marsh.  Older boats have piqued my imagination especially, and I have wondered what stories they would tell if they could speak to us.  Every boat in these paintings spoke to my artistic senses saying “Paint me…tell my Story!”
The idea of gathering these paintings together for an exhibit came to me when I had the opportunity to be Featured Artist in the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery this December.  While I do not know the actual stories of each of these boats, my imagination gives me clues, and from that source I have written a few lines about each painting.
I hope that as you view this exhibit, your imagination is stirred as mine has been. Do the boats in these paintings speak to you?  Listen, and they may tell you their stories!
