The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts (FMoPA) will exhibit the work of former “National Geographic” photographer Bruce Dale from July 9 to September 30 at the museum in downtown Tampa.
With a creative and deeply personal approach to his photography, Dale has traveled to more than 75 countries and captured some of the most compelling scenes in modern photojournalism.
Titled “Beyond the Lens,” Dale’s exhibition will consist of more than 50 portraits taken over the course of his career.
“Bruce Dale’s photography explores different places and perspectives from all over the globe, and yet he somehow always makes them seem familiar,” said FMoPA Executive Director Zora Carrier, Ph.D. “There’s such a universal beauty and relatability to his work.”

Dale has won a number of prestigious awards throughout his career, including White House Photographer of the Year in 1989. One of his photographs currently journeys through space on NASA’s Voyager spacecraft.
Visitors who wish to learn more about Dale’s work can hear him speak in an artist talk at the museum on August 24 from 5-7 p.m. The event is free for FMoPA members. Not-yet members may receive admission in exchange for a donation in the amount of their choosing.
“Beyond the Lens” will be on view during regular museum operating hours and is included in the general admission fee. Museum admission is free for members and $10 for not-yet members. To learn more about this exhibition and other programming at the museum, visit www.fmopa.org.
