“Did Donatello Draw? Designing Sculpture in the Renaissance,” Lecture by Professor Michael Cole will take place on Wednesday, April 20 from 5 – 6:30 pm in the Diffley Board Room in Bellarmine Hall.

The influential biographer and historian Giorgio Vasari wrote that most Renaissance sculptors could not draw, and in the centuries since, even the drawings that Vasari himself attributed to earlier Renaissance sculptors have often been doubted. The talk will look at three of the most famous and controversial drawings believed to have been made by early Italian sculptors, examining the debates surrounding them.
Michael Cole, Professor and Chair of the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University will present “Did Donatello Draw? Designing Sculpture in the Renaissance” in conjunction with the exhibition Don Gummer – The Armature of Emotion: Drawings and Sculpture on view at the Walsh Art Gallery from March 4 through June 11, 2016.
