Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA) is proud to present the current CoCA Lab: Artist-in-Residence in partnership with La Sala, an initiative to mobilize the Latino/Latina arts community.
Composer Jovino Santos Neto and visual artist Michelle de la Vega, present “plex∙us”, a collaboration of interconnected sculptural forms and sound installations. Their efforts represent the complexities and strength of nearby communities, particularly residents of South Park and the Duwamish River Valley area.
Working with students in a week-long multidisciplinary art workshop at Chief Sealth High School, De la Vega assisted students with mapping their own conceptual “networks” in non-linear, visual artworks, which were accompanied by spoken narratives to create the classroom plexus. Santos Neto, will feature these and Concord International School student recordings in his sound score. The students will perform a live reading of their spoken word poems in the gallery during the opening reception on Thursday, November 20.
Opening Reception Thursday, November 20, 5-9pm. Special presentation 7-7:30pm.
