Artists are often on the cutting edge and see things a bit differently than others. For instance there is now a very large movement using items we discard on a daily basis to create something entirely different and novel by “upcycling”, transforming everyday trash into treasure troves of creativity. In celebration of Earth Day, we are looking for small-scale art pieces exhibiting a sophisticated level of craftsmanship with a theme of clothing and/or accessories, or 2 D work that is fashion-inspired. Sculpture, mosaic, wearable art, etc. can be made from recycled paper or plastic bags, rubber bands, dried paint chips, recycled bottles, cans, bike parts, shoes, etc.. We are looking for pieces that are made from discarded items, and please do not submit perishable items like food. Think Andy Warhol and soup can art, El Anatsui and liquor bottle curtains, DeCordova Museum and ball gowns from pull tabs and computer keyboards, buttons, beer caps or other cool detritus. Think street cred, and cool not cutsie and cluttered. Got it? Make it and send us your best shot. Bring on the gussied up garbage!
