Echo Gallery is an hour west of Austin in a burgeoning art community that is the gateway to the second wine trail in America. We invite artists to enter our jurored art exhibition which is certain to gain attention and be a little scandalous, at least in the US where a breastfeeding mother in public is sometimes prohibited and often met with disdain. The exhibition will be held in August in conjunction with National Breastfeeding Month, World Breastfeeding Week, and Black Breastfeeding Week. Our goal is to gain public attention and help normalize the female breast and promote Breastfeeding.

The exhibition will address the stigma that still surrounds breastfeeding in public, the work plac, and within some cultures. We also hope the exhibition will have a trickle down effect of helping to close gender gaps and promote equality. There have recently been female political candidates and a professional hockey player nursing their Babis in ads/photos that have gone viral along with a wonderful ad campaign the Gap did in March. Let’s add to this progress!
The art exhibition is open to all mediums and aesthetic directions. A percentage of the entry fee is going to Planned Parenthood and La Leche League organizations. Ginger Henry Geyer will be juror. Dr. Mark Smith, co-founder of Flatbed Press in Austin and owner of Texas Arthouse Contemporary Gallery in Johnson City along with Texas public artist Deborah Mersky are assisting in the planning and execution of this exhibition. Reception is August 25, 2018 from 4-8pm.
