DETAILS: Annmarie welcomes artists to submit proposals for their annual summer residency program in the community arts, which runs mid-June through mid-August. Proposals must show a strong commitment to community engagement in the design and execution of the project. The summer residency program provides a serene place on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay for visual, musical, and literary artists to design and produce a community arts project. Most artists run their project through Annmarie’s creative reuse center, called the artLAB, where artists are encouraged to incorporate recycled or repurposed materials into their project. Artists will also have access to the galleries, a private studio space, the clay studio, the 30 acre sculpture garden, the waterfront area, etc. Residencies are meant to focus on community arts projects; those that merge arts and the environment are particularly desirable.
• THE SUMMER RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Artists are invited to submit a proposal for community art project our outdoor sculpture that will appeal to visitors of all ages. Artists will be expected to actively engage the public in an exciting and compelling project. Preference will be given to projects that use some or all recycled or repurposed materials. Artist is expected to work at least 28 hours a week directly with visitors. This residency is flexible and typically runs June-August. Residency length: 2 to 3 months. Housing available; artists will be paid a stipend.
• ELIGIBILITY
Professional and emerging visual artists, musicians, and literary artists may apply. Selection is made by an internal panel. Annmarie accommodates only one artist at a time. • ABOUT ANNMARIE
An affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, Annmarie Garden is a sculpture park and arts center located in scenic Solomons, Maryland, on the Chesapeake Bay. Annmarie features a walking path which meanders through the forest past permanent and loaned sculpture, including over forty works on loan from the Smithsonian Institution and the National Gallery of Art. Annmarie also presents a variety of special events, gallery shows, and engaging public art programs. The Murray Arts Building is a 15,000 sq.ft. museum-grade exhibition space that includes two large galleries, a gift shop, cafe, and a sunny patio that offers lovely views of the outdoor sculpture. Annmarie’s Studio School offers creative classes year-round taught by a talented faculty.
