To celebrate 50 years of its commitment to the Department of Art and it’s teaching mission, the Herter Art Gallery is delighted to announce an Open Call for a Juried Exhibition of Recent work by Alumni of the MFA program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The exhibition will be curated by Laylah Ali, contemporary artist and Francis Christopher Oakley Third Century Professor of Art at Williamsburg College, MA; Emma Chubb, the inaugural Charlotte Feng Ford ’83 Curator of Contemporary Art at the Smith College Museum of Art in Northampton, MA, and Ajay Sinha, Professor and Chair of Art History at Mt. Holyoke College of Art, MA. All selected applicants will be included in a full-color catalog that will accompany the exhibit. The exhibition will be up from March 5th – 26th, 2020, and will open with an Artists’ Reception on Thursday, March 5th in conjunction with the Amherst Arts Night Plus, from 5 -7 pm.

All work must fit through a door that is 98” tall and 34” wide. Artists are responsible for transporting work to and from the gallery. All work must be ready to display. If you would like to install your work in person then please contact the Gallery Director.

All shipped work must arrive between February 19th and 26th at the following address:

Shipped work must arrive in boxes/containers no larger than 32”W x 32”H x 32″D, 40 lbs. We make these restrictions based on the capacity of our space, and we appreciate your cooperation. Work being dropped off in person can be received at the gallery on Saturday February 29th between 10 AM and 4 PM and Sunday, March 1st, between 12 PM and 4 PM. All work will be insured while on premises.

All work must be picked up on the scheduled pick-up dates. Please include prepaid shipping label for work that needs to be shipped back.

All submissions must be made by 11:59 pm on November 30th, 2019. Selected applicants will be notified by December 20th, 2019.

ARTWORK SIZE RESTRICTIONS & DETAILS:
2D (painting, drawing, photography, etc.) Max Dimensions: 60” W x 96” H (40 lbs. max)
3D (sculpture, assemblage, installation) Max Dimensions: MUST be self-supportive or mountable; may not exceed 8 feet H x 3 feet W x 2 feet D. Artwork must fit through a 98” x 34” door. Installations must be simple to assemble or installed by artist.
Time Media (video or audio): No length restrictions.

ELIGIBILITY:
All Alumni of the graduate program in the Department of Art are eligible to apply. Submitted work must have been created within the last 5 years, complete and presentation ready.

SUBMISSION:
Online submissions only. Artists may submit up to 3 works. Work in all media is encouraged.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION:
Submissions must be received by Saturday, November 30th, 2019 @ 11:59pm. No late submissions will be accepted. Applicants will be notified of their status by December 20th, 2019.

ENTRY FEE:
Payment of $6 for 1-3 submissions at time of submission.
