The City of Boise and its Department of Arts and History invite national emerging and mid-career artists to apply for the Artist-in-Residence program at the historic James Castle House in Boise’s Collister Neighborhood. Serving as a testimony to the life and work of American artist James Castle, and rooted in Castle’s sense of wonder and discovery, the house today is a center for contemporary and historical exhibits, tours, performances, talks, an Artist-in-Residence program, and community partnerships.

Resident artists will have the opportunity to explore Boise while taking inspiration from the house and its legacy of creativity to create new work. Each 3-month residency cycle provides one artist with private furnished living quarters, studio access, and a $2,000.00 per month stipend to assist with living expenses and supplies necessary to the artist’s work.

Residencies will happen twice yearly in the summer and winter months. Applications for the 2018 and 2019 residency periods are due March 7, 2018. Artists are invited to apply for the following residency periods:

2018 Summer Residency: May 15 – August 14
2019 Winter Residency: January 3 – April 4
2019 Summer Residency: May 15 – August 14
