The NMSU University Art Gallery invites artists of all levels, ages, and locations to submit digital files of original works in consideration for our first ever UAG Biannual Banner Project. In conjunction with the exhibition opening of “Off the Wall” the theme of this Banner Project asks artists to create pieces inspired by the conceptual minimalist Sol LeWitt and his peers including- Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, Eva Hesse, Robert Ryman, Carl Andre, and Robert Mangold among others. The project’s objective is to create an outdoor gallery experience, which echoes the exhibition within the UAG. All media are welcome, with no limitation on specific artistic tools or techniques. Marisa Sage, Curator of “Off the Wall’ and the new director of the UAG and Julia M. Barello, acedemic department head of the NMSU Art Department – will choose up to 6 artists who’s works will be reproduced on to high-quality outdoor banners and hung on the banner systems installed on the outer walls of D.W. Williams Hall. This is an exiting opportunity to have thousands of viewers see your works as they drive off interstate 10 or 25 down University Avenue past the campus of New Mexico State University. A reception for the selected artist will be held in conjunction with the opening of “Off the Wall” on September 11, from 5 p.m-7 p.m. Read the full prospectus on our website including all banner information, submission guidelines, and submission fees.
