The Nave Gallery Annex (Somerville, MA) invites artists to participate in the curated exhibition, Naked.

No one view of the nude is the same; in art, as in life, there are no certainties. No blacks and whites, only shades of gray. Writing about the nude is a difficult endeavor. It has been approached in the past by so many different visions and politics, that one thing is certain—there is no one revelation, there is no naked truth. The nude’s importance is paramount as a symbol of purity, humanity and sexuality. The body is the vessel that carries us through the world. It is one of the purest forms of nature. The nude affects the way we see and interpret the rest of the world. It is something that goes unnoticed in our lives, but all of humanity, even the puritanical, confront it on a daily basis.

Photography as a medium has no rules or limits. Its politics apply to whoever is making the image; it is vision, it is light and it is sight. The body is like an instrument; it can make an image of pure beauty, with quiet and deep symphonic tones. The body can be loud, sharp & startling! It can be worn, tired and matured. It can be innocent and obscene. It can be tender, sweet and seductive. Naked will be a symphony of these pure human tones, of sadness, excitement, love and lust.

All works with a photographic component may be entered into the show including, but not limited to: Alternative Photo Process, Wet Plate Collodion, Silver Prints, C-Prints, Polaroids, Digital Workflow and Mixed Media.

GUIDELINES:
– $15 entry fee payable through PayPal
– A maximum of five pieces may be entered for consideration
– Submissions will be accepted through April 12, 2015
– The Nave Gallery will retain a 30% commission for work sold
– Artist is responsible for cost of shipping work to and from the gallery

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK:
-Send up to five artwork submissions as .jpg files to [email protected].
-Each .jpg should be 1200 pixels in the long dimension and named as “NAME_#.jpg” where # is the submission number and NAME is your last name
-Include an image list with your jpeg submission email, indicating submission number, title, size, process and year, as well as a brief artist bio and statement
-There is a $15 submission fee, payable through Paypal. Paypal is available here. Please include “Naked” in the note field
Accepted pieces should be delivered to the Nave Gallery Annex located in Davis Square (53 Chester St, Somerville, MA) ready to install.
