We are asking interested artists to donate one book art object for the show. All proceeds go to support the exhibitions and programs of the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art. Mary Austin, Founder of the San Francisco Center for the Book, will jury this year’s exhibition for 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize and honorable mentions.

Altered Books: Altered Books use all or part of a book as the starting point for a new work of art. Final pieces can take many different forms be it sculptural, collage, assemblage or even jewelry as long as the book features heavily in its final appearance. If you are looking for ideas we recommend looking at past Art of the Book exhibitions at the Seager Gray Gallery in Mill Valley, CA for some excellent examples of book art that employ sophisticated techniques and concepts.

Book Art Objects: Book Art Objects are books that have been created out of either traditional fine art bookbinding techniques, or unique materials and techniques. Our innovative past artists have turned to materials such as antique Japanese scrolls, fabric, driftwood, film negatives, and resin for their artists’ books.

Limitations: Size not to exceed 16” H by 16”W by 10” D. Books may be hung on the wall or displayed on a shelf or pedestal.
