“O fiar – pontos, nós, corte” (“The Thread – Stitches, Knots, Cuts”) curated by Claudio Cretti with text by Diego Mauro, celebrates the diversity of textile arts through the work of five artists. Employing embroidery, knitting, and sewing, the pieces explore the interplay between two-dimensional and spatial forms, control and chance, and gesture as a timeline, revealing the materiality of time through textures and weaves.João Modé (Resende, Brasil, 1961), with his “Extensores” (“Extenders”), forges connections between materials and people, weaving relationships within the exhibition space. Soffia Lotti (Poços de Caldas, Brasil, 1991) transforms digital albums into wool topographies, exploring the tension of knots. Daniel Albuquerque (Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, 1983) presents sculptural knits, imbued with affection, that interact with the space and incorporate quartz as a gesture of care. Marina Weffort (São Paulo, Brasil, 1978), mastering voile, sculpts subtle volumes through restraint and movement.
Finally, Madalena Santos Reinbolt (Vitória da Conquista, Brasil, 1919 – Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, 1977) evokes memories in vibrant tapestries featuring human and animal figures. The artist has gained increasing visibility, evidenced by her 2023 solo show at MASP and her first international exhibition at the American Folk Art Museum this year.
The exhibition are under the artistic direction of Claudio Cretti, conceived by the Instituto de Cultura Contemporânea (ICCo), and supported by the Ministry of Culture through the Culture Incentive Law. The I Expository Cycle 2025 events are supported by Interfood, Casal Garcia, and Jägermeister.
