Thomas Rickis My work consists of watercolors, oils and mixed media paintings. My medium of choice during my earlier years was watercolors. I’m currently exploring watercolor collage and oil collage. I’m using collage to transform the traditional two dimensional painting surface into a three dimensional visual plane. Although my subject matter may be somewhat representational at times consisting of traditional landscapes such barns set in a snow scene and still lives, several of my current pieces are contemporary abstracts paintings. In my snow scenes, I like to contrast the warm colors of weathered barn siding with the cool color variations of snow. I’m a minimalist and do not like to over load my paintings with excessive details since my objective is to present the viewer with just enough content to capture a mood or emotion. Feedback from many admirers that have viewed my art, state my paintings convey a peaceful, homelike, intimate realism! I find myself constantly analyzing everything around me which provides me with endless possibilities of subject matter for new paintings.
