Susanna Ronner
Presented by Pinkwater Gallery
Susanna Ronner is a graphic designer and monotype artist residing near Woodstock, NY in the tiny hamlet called Bearsville. After attending the High School of Music and Art in New York City, Susanna earned her BFA with honors in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois. From there, she went on to San Francisco and worked for some of the most sought-after and influential graphic designers on the West Coast. Returning east in 1989, Susanna opened her own graphic design firm in Woodstock, which continues to this day. She discovered monotype printmaking thanks to the celebrated designer Milton Glaser and fell instantly in love. The print studio at the Woodstock School of Art is her treasured ‘happy place’, a true refuge that forges her creativity. As a professional graphic designer, and having worked under several renowned designers while living in San Francisco, Susanna approaches her art with a cultivated eye informed by a lifetime of visual exploration. Untethered from project deadlines and technology, with no one to answer to but herself, Susanna has found a profound freedom in printmaking. She approaches each monotype plate as an improvisation, meeting the ‘canvas’ (acrylic plate) with trust and curiosity.
