Soraida Martinez, 1956-Present Born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents, since 1992 Soraida Martinez has been creating paintings with social commentaries, which she calls Verdadism. Soraida’s Verdadism art addresses social issues like racism, sexism and stereotyping for the purpose of promoting tolerance and understanding. In 1999, Soraida wrote a book on the art of Verdadism. Soraida is a former member of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and she is among the 10 most influential Latino artists in the U.S.
