Matt Nolen’s figures tell a narrative of life’s complexities. He interprets the stories of those who have experienced emotional and psychological challenges. He incorporates found objects like stone, metal, and wood into his ceramic sculptures; some of which are reminiscent of Greek and Roman portrait busts. Living and working in New York City, his work has been exhibited internationally and is in numerous collections including the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, NYC, The Museum of Arts and Design, NYC, The Newark Museum, NJ among others. Nolen’s work has been published in The New York Times, American Ceramics, Ceramics Art and Perception, Masters of Craft, Confrontational Clay, Postmodern Ceramics and Painted Clay.
