Marcy LaBella - Potter & Jeweler
Presented by Wesleyan Potters
Starting with a strong background in drawing and painting, I was searching for something more tactile and intimate. Over a decade ago I returned to working in clay, and was immediately drawn into the immediacy of the material. I began working in metal for the same reasons; the pull to engage with a medium that demands that the artist work with its properties and not against them. I enjoy working with the particular challenges that clay and metal present, and the things that must be taken into consideration during the creative process. There is a conversation that opens doing this work; entering into this dialog allows me to become a co-collaborator with the material itself. In my work I draw on natural organic forms, the human figure, birds, animals and the beauty of the material itself to present a connectedness to the natural world and an intimacy with the viewer.
