Daniel van Benthuysen
Presented by Mills Pond House Gallery
Daniel van Benthuysen spent 29 years as a graphic designer, editorial art director and finally director of design at Newsday. He currently teaches courses in visual journalism in the School of Communication at Hofstra University. Portraiture as well as still life and landscape painting are all fair game for van Benthuysen. "If my work speaks for itself, why should I interrupt? I do enjoy the way late afternoon or early evening light plays on the tops of buildings or against the faces of my friends. These seem like appealing subjects for paintings as well as fitting venues for meditation on what really matters. Isn't that what art is supposed to be? So much for an artist's statement. Now an artist's question: See anything you like? "
