Painting: Market Woman. Aron Belka won an Award of Excellence in the 2015 Art of the Heartland competition. Primarily, I am an oil painter interested in mark making, color, shape, and composition. I am also interested in communicating what inspires me about the human experience. Recently I have been making larger paintings, enjoying the process and work involved to move the paint around. Creating gestural strokes and movement on this scale requires more physical participation, and it’s a different relationship with the materials than I have previously experienced. The subjects and themes have been taken from personal interactions around New Orleans and southern Louisiana as well as my wife's experiences in Sierra Leone where she currently does public health research.
