Mena Art Gallery
The Mena Art Gallery is located in the arts district of the scenic mountain town of Mena Arkansas in the heart of the 1.5 million acre Ouachita National Forest. The Gallery is at the foot of Rich Mountain, the second highest mountain in Arkansas, at the entrance to the Talimena National Scenic Drive. It was founded and operated by the 501(c)3 organization, SouthWest Artists, Inc., established in 1945 by and for the strong community of local artists. Since that time it has continue to grow to the point that it is now nationally recognized. Funding is solely by donations and grants. It is manned by volunteers through various committees and managed by our Executive Director, Whitney Espinoza.
Arkansas is called the Natural State, and no place in the state offers more to artists and photographers than here. Tourism is strong, particularly in the fall when leaves are changing colors. Arkansas Parks and Tourism has designated Mena and the surrounding area as the center for Plein Air Art, due to it’s natural beauty. In the month of October, the Christian Motorcycle Association, located here, holds it’s annual international rally, bringing in many thousands of visitors. At this time the gallery is flooded with visitors from all over the nation and abroad, seeking art and entertainment after the ascension of the morning.
Over our more than 70-year history, our mission has grown from helping local artists and bringing art to the people of southwestern Arkansas to include workshops, seminars, classes, art shows, regional and national competitions and exhibits. Eleven separate shows have grown from local interest to including artists and visitors from most every state in the U.S and even into Canada.
Member artists sell their work in the gallery gift shop.
Every aspect of creative fine art is considered, ranging from fiber arts, sculpture and photography to the finest in 2 dimensional art. During our national shows, several special events and workshops are scheduled weekly to introduce the gallery to an even broader range of visitors and artists. Guest judges and jurors contribute to the critical quality and versatility of the selected works in the national shows, providing a venue for artists working in a wide variety of media and subject.
In November, the art district streets are blocked off for the Ouachita Arts Celebration. There is always something interesting going on at the Mena Art Gallery. We hope you will join us as a participating artist or visitor to our gallery. We welcome you.
As a non-profit organization, working to support the art community, donations are always needed and are tax-deductible. We welcome any support you may offer. Contact us by email at email@example.com or by phone at 479-394-3880.
