Artist Statement
“Titled American Aboriginal, my art is Australian Aboriginal influenced, smooth jazz inspired, and designed to convey the message of the movement, texture, color, kinetic energy, and jazz fusion, with a touch of fine art and a splash of graphic design. When complete, each piece is seen as a “frozen melody”. Born in Albion, Michigan, I have a bachelor’s degree in Art (Graphic Design) from Spring Arbor University, a master’s degree in Recreation and Sport Sciences from Ohio University, and I’m currently pursuing a doctorate degree (EdD) in Kinesiology from Concordia University-St. Paul (Minnesota). I am entering my 22 second year as a college basketball coach and had the opportunity to play 5 years of semipro basketball in Europe (Austria, England, and France) following graduation from SAU, where I began my painting career. I was previously represented by Impact Art Agency of London, England while playing basketball in Brighton, England. Living in Europe provided me the opportunity to experience “the best of both worlds”, by playing basketball, and creating, exhibiting, and selling artwork in Europe. I’ve sold over 250 paintings in the U.S. and abroad while visiting 15 countries through basketball. I currently reside in Old Town- Lansing, where I work as a Student Support Specialist at Gardner International Magnet School, and I’m starting my 5th season as a basketball coach at the University of Olivet (formally Olivet College). I participated in ArtPrize in 2012, and 2014, and I have been accepted into ArtPrize 2023. I’ve been a member of the Lansing art scene since 2001, having been featured in numerous galleries throughout the community.”

Artist Bio
“I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Spring Arbor University (1991) with an emphasis in Graphic Design, a master’s degree in Recreation and Sport Sciences from Ohio University (2011), and I am currently pursuing a Ed. D. in Kinesiology from Concordia University-St. Paul (MN). Upon graduating from Spring Arbor, I moved to Salzburg, Austria, where I played semi-professional basketball, and began my painting career in 1991.

I also played basketball in England, and France where I continued painting, and was represented by Impact Art Agency, of London in 2002. Although I studied Graphic Design, I have been painting in my current style since 1993, and have been in many galleries, particularly in Old Town Lansing and I have sold over 250 paintings regionally and internationally. I have exhibited in the Grand Rapids, MI-based Art Prize in 2012, and 2014 and will exhibit again this year. Currently, I have a loft/studio in Old Town where I am very active and busy in the local art scene.

Professionally, I work as a Student Support Specialist at Gardner International Magnet School in Lansing and I’m entering my fifth season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Olivet College.”
