The AvS Gallery is proud to present 4 solo exhibitions featuring the outstanding work of these Connecticut artists:

James Prosek of Easton, CT is an artist, writer and naturalist. Proseck published his first book in 1996 while studying at Yale. Trout: An Illustrated History included watercolors of seventy species, subspecies, and strains of trout in North America. With the publication of Trout, the first book of its kind, Prosek became widely recognized as having brought attention to the existence and plight of native trout, leading to widespread conservation efforts. A year later, in 1997, he published his second book, Joe and Me: An Education in Fishing and Friendship. His second trout book, Trout of the World, published in 2003 is a collection of one hundred watercolors of native trout from Europe, Asia and North Africa.
Prosek’s art has been featured in exhibitions at The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Addison Gallery of American Art, North Carolina Museum of Art, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and The National Academy of Sciences among other institutions.
In 2002, Prosek won a Peabody Award for his documentary on 17th-century author and angler Izaak Walton and his book The Compleat Angler. As an undergraduate at Yale University he majored in English Literature, and was a member of Manuscript Society. Prosek is the author of eleven books for both adults and children He has written for the New York Times and National Geographic Magazine.

Mallorie Ostrowitz, of Glastonbury, CT creates exciting narratives with her photographs. In this body of work entitles “Illusions or Reality” Ostrowitz explains, “My focus in capturing these images is to blend reality and fantasy which first creates the emotional response of disorientation, then challenges the viewer to sort out the content into what are the real objects and what is the reflection, and from that interpretation create their own narrative of the scene”.

Susan Schultz of Stonington, CT exhibits her stunning porcelain sculpture juxtaposing the delicacy of her materials with the harsh realities of the degradation of our environment. She states, ”For the past ten years, my work has been inspired by the ocean, and environmental issues. I am currently shifting my focus back to looking at historic still life, exploring abundance and remains.

Dennis Sirrine of Stonington, CT exhibits his new body of work which forges into new territory for him. Dennis states, “This new series of abstract paintings is a departure for me in that I limited my palette to black and white. While this could have been a restriction, it actually inspired me to express a new language. It provided me an opportunity to investigate a world of shades of gray where value and contrast became as important as color. Like life, not knowing where this experience will lead is part of the beauty and mystery of approaching each blank canvas with a beginner’s mind”.
