The Comic Influence, curated by Virginia Fabbri Butera, Ph.D., features the work of six artists who capture the comedy of the quotidian through outrageous, whimsical, and humorous caricatures of reality: Barbara Neibart (Rockaway), Bette Blank (Madison), Dan Fenelon (Morristown), Rocco Scary (North Caldwell), Stephanie Brody-Lederman (New York, NY), and Suprina (Poughkeepsie, NY). The result is six distinct “parallel universe[s] based on his or her personality and signature,” (Butera) that showcase the artists’ unique perspective and wit. With subjects as varied as The Macy’s Day Parade, a salami sandwich, and a dog takeover of famous works of art, this exhibition delivers both playful comedy and hard-hitting satire.
