The New Mexico Museum of Art presents Shiprock and Mont St. Michel: Photographs by William Clift.
For over four decades Santa Fe photographer William Clift photographed two very distinctive landscapes that define the western culture: Shiprock in the northwestern corner of New Mexico and Mont St. Michel. Shiprock, the location of countless western films is an eroded volcanic formation that jets skyward in the New Mexican desert of the Navajo Nation. Mont St. Michel is famous for its Romanesque Christian church and monastery.
Presented will be a selection of more than sixty images that Clift shares with the viewer as he explored these two sites. His prints encourage a careful look that draws our attention to the strength of form and composition.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue of images of Mont St. Michel and Shiprock selected by the artist with poems by Paul Kane.
