This May, Lyme Art Association presents two exciting exhibitions. Showcasing a range in representational art, the 102nd Elected Artist Exhibition features work from accomplished artists and torch-bearers of the American representational tradition. The exhibition is juried by Rosemary Swimm, president of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. Though steeped in the past, this lively show is relevant and connected to a community of working artists who continue the legacy of artmaking in the 21st century.

Running concurrently is Ship to Shore: A Marine Show. From the ocean’s powerful force to its soothing nature, Ship to Shore explores the multifaceted aspects of water and sea life and how water shapes the lives of those who live along the shoreline. Renowned painter Viktor Butko juries this exhibition, which features a range of styles created by our member artists who capture the majestic beauty of the sea.

Both shows are on view from May 5 – June 15, and are proudly sponsored by Chelsea Groton Bank, our supporting sponsor. Opening reception is Friday, May 12, 5 – 7 pm.

The Lyme Art Association is a welcoming and thriving fine arts community founded in 1914 by the American Impressionists of Old Lyme. Located in a historic, skylit 1921 building with a world-class gallery and art education studio, LAA exhibits over 2,000 paintings and sculptures each year in up to fifteen themed, juried shows. LAA offers art instruction, enrichment programs, and other public programs to the community, supporting artists at every level of their journey and cultivating a love of fine art. Admission is free with contributions appreciated. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 10 – 5pm, or by appointment.
