Clark University and the Schiltkamp Gallery is pleased to present “Recursive” by artist and Clark University professor Johnathan Derry. Recursive features 15 recent sculptures by Johnathan Derry.
Derry’s work sources from the detritus that is the residue of our material world. He offsets this with classical sculptural forms such as figurative elements like human limbs. The work often has a paradoxical relationship between material and message and notions of tragic and comic. These narratives may be interpreted by viewers in various ways based on their personal understanding of the materials or through cultural and symbolic references.
