The Smithtown Township Arts Council is pleased to announce Of A Botanical Nature fine art exhibit at Mills Pond Gallery June 18 – July 20, 2016. The gallery is located at 660 Route 25A, St. James, NY. The public is invited to an opening reception on Saturday, June 18 at 2 pm to meet the participating artists and view their work. The Mills Pond Gallery hours are: Wednesday through Friday 10 am – 4 pm and Saturday and Sunday 12 pm – 4 pm. Admission to the Gallery is free. Juror Wendy Hollender’s call was for original artwork that reflects the beauty and uniqueness of flora (realistic or representational style). She selected 61 works (from 49 artists) in a wide variety of media, all paying homage to the beauty found in plants. Artists hail from 9 states and 27 are from Long Island.

Wendy Hollender is a botanical artist, illustrator, author, and instructor. Hollender’s illustrations have been published in The New York Times, Real Simple, and Good Housekeeping among others. Her work has been in exhibitions at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, and the Smithsonian National Museum for Natural History. She is the author of Botanical Drawing in Color and Botanical Drawing: A Beginners Guide and most recently she illustrated Foraging & Feasting: A Field Guide and Wild Food Cookbook. Wendy is an instructor of Botanical Art and Illustration at the New York Botanical Garden.
