Member Exhibition plus Bruce Ferraris and Christopher Maglieri
Gallery on the Green
Jan. 10, 2025 - Feb. 8, 2025
Brighten your mid-winter days at the Gallery on the Green’s “Members New Work,” an exhibit showcasing the Canton Artist Guild members’ latest works in painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, photography, mixed media and fiber art.
Upstairs are two solo shows. Bruce Ferraris has a photography exhibit entitled, “Chance-Randomness-Modularity.” Each piece is an assemblage of images arranged in a grid. Within any particular work, the images are of a same set of objects, but the objects in each image have different arrangements or are taken from different perspectives. The result is a startling and surprising take on commonplace objects. Ferraris views his exploration of randomness, chance and modularity as driven by a pursuit to “bring order to chaos.” Ferraris has a BFA from University of Connecticut. The craftsmanship in these assembled pieces reflect his diverse career experience as theater technician/carpenter, a custom photo printer and later as museum technician at Wadsworth Atheneum. He has won many awards for his entries in local galleries and has had work at the New Britain Museum of American Art and the Mattatuck Museum.
The second solo show,“Beautiful Woods,” by Christopher Maglieri features a variety of handcrafted serving/cutting boards. Prizing vibrant colors and unusual patterns, Maglieri purchases woods from all over the world. Each pieces combines different woods and may even include a walnut or apple tree that has fallen locally. A civil engineer by training, Maglieri learned woodworking from his grandfather. Later he taught himself new techniques through experimenting in his workshop, and his early skills at wood turning have evolved into an ability to create finely crafted small furniture. His work has been available for purchase in fairs and local shops throughout the state.
The opening reception for all three shows is Saturday, January 11th from 6:00-8:00 pm. The reception including refreshments is free, and the public is warmly invited.
