Garrison Art Center (GAC) is pleased to present I M A G E A F T E R, an exhibition of recent work by Visiting Artist, Susan Magnus. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition at Garrison Art Center and includes photo-based projects, sculpture and drawing. The exhibition will run from September 21—October 20, 2024. A public reception with the artist will take place on Saturday, September 21, 5 – 7pm.
After the death of her mother in 2023, Magnus inherited a trove of family photographs and objects. Beyond sentimental, the vulnerability of the pre-digital snapshots seemed emblematic of the fleeting nature of memory and the inevitability of loss we all experience over the course of our lives. Moreover, the heirlooms and objects from the landscape of her mother’s life became not just repositories of memories for the artist, but reminders of the ephemerality of the animate and the inanimate. The work presented in I M A G E A F T E R draws inspiration from many of these materials.
