An Interactive Art Exhibit Premieres at Gallery 66 NY, Cold Spring

Gallery 66 NY in Cold Spring will exhibit NYC artist Megan Karlen’s ambitious new project that will have you looking at the world with fresh eyes. Pareidolia is the phenomenon of seeing recognizable images in random shapes and patterns. The Pareidolia Project propels this phenomenon into a high gear experience. Karlen takes us with her on a daily, non-stop journey seeing images in the otherwise, stepped on, wiped out, spilled or simply passed by item. Capturing digital images with her phone, Karlen later prints them on aluminum, underscoring the grittier aspect of the project.

Vistors to The Pareidolia Project are in for an interactive treat.

The gallery garden will provide an environment for participants’ imaginative creations to find images in: namely, a stained and garbage-strewn surface. We are asking viewers to loosen their minds and tell us the images that they see.” Guests are encouraged to snap those images and post them to FB and instagram with username @thepareidoliaproject#tpproject.

Challenging art assumptions one cracked sidewalk at a time, The Pareidolia Project is the ordinary gone extraordinary and anyone can play. Megan Karlen is an award-winning Brooklyn-based artist. In addition to pareidolia, she works in mediums: oil painting, ceramics, wood and restoration — an original dumpster diver. Often finding inspiration in the overlooked, The Pareidolia Project comes from a personal desire to bring the joy of just-taking-a-gosh-darn-moment-to-slow-the-heck-down-and-look-at-something.
