Emerge Gallery is pleased to present Fotographia: A Group Exhibition of Photography from August 4 – September 3, 2018. The exhibition includes work by over thirty artists from the Hudson Valley and NY metropolitan area. A public opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, August 4, 2018, from 5-8 PM. All are welcome. There will also be a preview during Saugerties First Friday on August 3, 2018. Artwork in the exhibition will be available to view and purchase online at www.emergegalleryny.com.

Fotographia includes traditional abstract, landscape, street and still life photography exhibited alongside work where artists incorporate their photography into their art in creative ways. Artist Robert Lach photographed pin-up girls on the walls of an abandoned factory and framed them on car doors for his series Factory Women. “My father was an auto mechanic,” explains the artist. “Growing up I remember seeing pin up women in our basement and on the gas station back room walls. They were idealized and sacred to a young boy. So was the car.”

Artist Erica Resnick mounts her original photographs of Philadelphia’s historic Eastern State Penitentiary onto burned wood and adds key shavings and rusted metal to enhance the feeling of isolation and decay captured in her photographs. Joan Reinmuth frames her photography in throw-away plastic packaging to confront “the increasingly popular yet useless industrial blister wrap.” Artist and beekeeper Maria Kolodziej-Zincio embeds her photography into layers of encaustic sourced from her own hives, while artist Ann Morris embeds photographs and letters from her mother into her encaustic work. 

Photographs from Andrea DiFiore’s High Anxiety Tea Party series will be inckuded. The series, made up of elegant tea cups photographed over a stark background, brings attention to the issue of mental illness. “I bought teacups, broke them and glued them back together,” she explains. 
“representing putting ourselves back together.” Photographer Ken Tannenbaum experienced his own artistic “putting back together” after 9/11 — his studio and family were blocks from the World Trade Center. The skills that he applied to advertising suddenly became very personal. His photograph Ode to Orwell offers an ominous glimpse into a stark future.

Fotographia is curated by Emerge Gallery director Robert Langdon.

Emerge Gallery & Art Space focuses on emerging artists from the Hudson Valley, NY, region and beyond by hosting monthly group art exhibitions, and other events. It is a very open and welcoming environment that is a wonderful setting for private parties and gatherings and is available for rental. The space is also available to rent for solo and privately curated exhibitions.
