DECONSTRUCTION: new works by Patrick Eugene
Brooklyn Arts Fellowship Gallery
Sep. 8, 2024 - Sep. 23, 2016
My latest series of works, ‘Deconstruction of East New York’ addresses the cultural deforestation taking place as East New York, Brooklyn experiences the redevelopment previously seen in the neighboring communities of Williamsburg and Bushwick. While it’s often brushed over as part of the natural processes of community development, modernization and gentrification, there is a deeper, more complex, story emerging that needs to be documented and deserves thoughtful consideration. My latest work discusses the positive and negative impacts of the development of this community and challenges viewers to think critically about the consequences.
