Heather Gaudio Fine Art is pleased to present its upcoming summer exhibition “Color Untitled” to be held June 3rd through August 1st, 2015. The group show will consist of paintings and prints by Charles Arnoldi, Madeleine Keesing, Betty Merken and James Nares, showcasing patterns, rhythms and improvisation skillfully expressed through color. All are invited to attend a public opening reception to be held on Wednesday, June 3, from 5-7:30 pm.

About the artists:

Charles Arnoldi has had a long and celebrated artistic career, creating two and three-dimensional abstract assemblages that draw inspiration from nature and architecture. The show will display three paintings on aluminum and canvas featuring his signature colorful arc and grid compositions. Arnoldi’s work is included in many private and public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain.

Madeleine Keesing creates works that couple the patterns and decoration movement with a variation of color field painting. Combining layers of pigments, she neatly divides them into grids or patterns to conjure the impression of textile work. Keesing’s works have been widely exhibited throughout the United States, and are in the collection of the Guggenheim Museum in New York and in the personal collection of Thomas Krens, the former director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, among others.
Betty Merken’s formal language may be rooted in geometric abstraction and minimalism, yet she manages to avoid a hard-edged industrial feel with a use of richly saturated colors and soft grounds and edges. Merken brings mastery to the monotype, a technique few printmakers can boast, sharing the contemplation and reverie found in Rothko paintings. Merken has been the recipient of numerous awards and is a teacher and guest lecturer at many notable institutions. Her work is in many public and private collections, including Boeing Company, Chicago; Chubb, Inc., and Goldman Sachs & Co. in San Francisco; the Henry Ford III Collection in Detroit and the Industry Club in Japan.

James Nares moved from the UK after studying at the Chelsea College of Art in London, completing his artistic education at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Nares is another artist in the exhibition with an acclaimed artistic career and exhibition roster, having recently been featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford. Nare’s trademark gestural work showcased complements the rhythms and repetitive patterns in the rest of the exhibition. His work is in several private and public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Albright Knox Gallery and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
