America Martin is a Los Angeles based artist with a rapidly growing reputation. She describes herself as an anthropological painter whose focus is an exploration of the human form and themes of humanity. Her mixed media works on canvas and paper feature big open forms, a confident, muscular line and human figures that take on a monumental sense of scale. The influences of Matisse, Picasso, Leger and Chagall are readily apparent in the works but Martin’s emotional reach and painterly vocabulary have expanded her vision to one of contemporary vulnerability, refinement and poetry.
