The Lyme Art Association is proud to announce its new Weekend Matinee Series, a lineup of art-focused events that offer opportunities for members of the community to engage with artists and learn about the creative process.
On Saturday, March 11 from 2 – 4 PM. figurative painter Mike Laiuppa will give a demonstration on painting ballet slippers. With expressive strokes and a keen attention to detail, Laiuppa’s work showcases the power of painting to tell a story. Next, on March 25 from 2 – 4 PM, Diane Cadrain will demonstrate her technique for creating felted landscapes. Using soft wool roving and a special barbed needle, Cadrain will craft an original work of art on a raw silk backing.
Harley Bartlett, one of the LAA’s Elected Artists, is renowned for his vivid landscape paintings, but on Sunday, March 26 from 3 – 4 PM, the artist will give a talk on his large-scale murals. Discussing the role of art in public spaces, Bartlett will share his experiences as a muralist. Following Bartlett, floral painter Paul Baldassini will present “Routes to Bloom” on April 23 from 3 – 4 PM. During this artist presentation, Baldassini will offer his thoughts on the art of floral painting and share the methods he uses to bring his blooms to life.
