Philadelphia Museum of Art presents Gauguin, Cézanne, Matisse: Visions of Arcadia, a time of theatrical and poetic paradise. At this time in the 1900’s the community of European countries suffered through war and political unrest as Arcadia gave escape to a quiet place of contentment.
Transformed by his travels to Tahiti, Gauguin painted idealic island scenes and people. As Matisse’s Bathers dipped serenely into calm water.
