Let’s get the paint flowing on Thursday mornings in July!
Sometimes we need a little structure…
to get the brushes out, the paints flowing – and show that bright white blank canvas who’s boss. Taking a weekly painting class is often the best way to ensure that you will set aside time in your hectic schedule to give your creative muse a boost.
All levels are welcome…
To come make art. I offer plenty of innovative, targeted exercises to help each artist progress towards their specific goals, even if those goals are just to “get started painting”. Small class size will ensure plenty of guidance and personal instruction.
We will cover…
simplifying detail
mixing colors
composition
color harmony
seeing values
translating values to color
mixing colorful greys
economy of stroke
brushwork
edges…and more
The focus will be a colorful, bold approach to painting. Artists can work in oils, acrylics, pastel or watercolor, as the fundamentals apply to all media. The atmosphere is relaxed, supportive, respectful and inspiring.
Students are free to work from life or photos, either from my collection of painting props or reference material, or their own. All genres are welcome – still life, landscapes, urban, figurative, abstract, etc. Models will pose for figurative painters.
Teaching…
My painting style leans towards a loose, painterly, interpretive approach, based on strong value clarification and a cohesive underlying abstract design. I encourage taking plenty of artistic license with color, as well as simplification of unnecessary detail. See samples of work at “mollicastudio” website or “newyorkpainter” blog.
