The Asian Art Museum offers one of the most complete collections of Asian art in the world. Covering 6,000 years, it enables the museum to provide an introduction to the major Asian arts. The collection contains rare objects which are often used for referenced in technical materials

The collection includes over 18,000 works of art including; jades, monumental sculptures, paintings, porcelains and ceramics, lacquers, textiles, furniture, arms and armor, puppets, and basketry.

Chicago industrialist Avery Brundage is the museums greatest benefactore and in the 1960s, was the impetus for the museum’s founding. His contribution includes a gilt bronze Buddha dated 338and is considered a textbook example of Chinese Buddhist art.
