Lecture: “Gari Melchers in Context”

In conjunction with the exhibition, Gari Melchers: An American Impressionist at Home and Abroad, Dr. Joanna D. Catron will give a lecture, “Gari Melchers in Context,” on Thursday, March 5, from 5 – 6 pm in the Diffley Board Room of Bellarmine Hall.
Dr. Catron is the Exhibition Curator and Curator of Belmont, Gari Melchers’ 18th century home and studio located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. In 1942, Mrs. Melchers gave the estate to the Commonwealth of Virginia to serve as a Gari Melchers memorial and arts center. Today, Belmont is registered as both a National and Virginia Historic landmark.
Gari Melchers: An American Impressionist at Home and Abroad will be on view at the Bellarmine Museum of Art from March 5 – May 22, 2015. The lecture and exhibition are free and open to the public.
